Heavy rain is expected this weekend continuing into Monday and Tuesday with estimated total rainfall of 2 to 6 inches over this period. Localized street flooding and rising creek levels are possible. Currently all pumps and detention facilities are fully functional. Levee Management Services and Costello, Inc. are monitoring the situation and communications from Fort Bend County and the National Weather Service.

In short, the findings show that LID 19’s levee and detention facilities meet regulatory criteria. However, it appears that Steep Bank Creek Pump Station does not meet current regulatory criteria. As you may be aware, the total maximum capacity at the Steep Bank Creek Pump Station is 80,000 gallons per minute (gpm) (60,000 gpm design criteria plus 20,000 gpm backup). According to the Third Party Engineer’s findings, under current regulatory criteria, the Steep Bank Creek Pump Station should be sized to pump approximately 100,000 gpm (not including required backup capacity). These findings will be discussed at the community meeting on Saturday, June 9 at 2:00 p.m. at Anne Sullivan Elementary School.
In addition, the LID has arranged for the purchase of 81,000 gpm in supplemental pumping capacity to be kept at the Steep Bank Creek Pump Station site. As of today, approximately 35,000 gpm of pumping equipment has been delivered, with the balance of the 46,000 gpm scheduled to arrive before the end of the month. After all temporary pumps are delivered, the maximum total pumping capacity at Steep Bank Creek will be 161,000 gallons per minute. In the coming weeks, the LID Board will be reviewing all options for permanent improvements to the Steep Bank Creek Pump Station.
